People have a tendency to misunderstand the hemp plant as a whole. Hemp is a specific variant of the plant species, Cannabis Sativa, that is completely distinct from the other cultivars and species commonly known as marijuana. While marijuana contains higher levels of THC, hemp only refers to low-THC strains of Cannabis Sativa. These variant are specially bred and cultivated to produce extremely low levels of THC and are legally defined as industrial hemp.
The key difference between THC and CBD is that THC is psychotropic whereas CBD is not. THC produces the “high” for which marijuana is so well known. CBD, on the other hand, is a more subtle, soothing compound. CBD displays a unique chemical structure with its own distinct chemical properties.
